Rocket League physical sales surpass 1 million
In eighth generation of console gaming, Rocket League is a success story like none other. Rocket League is a small indie game from developers at Psyonix that had a very humble beginning. Planned as a sequel to Battle-Cars, Rocket League quickly morphed into a game best described as "Soccer, but with rocket-powered cars."
Originally released in July 2015 on PC and PS4, Psyonix even made the game free to download on launch as part of PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection. The innovative and fun premise of game quickly gained a huge following and sales surpassed all expectations as the game continues to set new milestones for indie developers. Rocket League was released on XBOX One in February of 2016, and the continuous success and sales numbers inspired Psyonix to launch a physical retail version of the game in June 2016.
Distributor 505 Games is now reporting that in its lifetime, Rocket League has sold more than 10.5 million copies across all three platforms that includes over 1 million sales of physical retail copies. Alongside this reveal, 505 Games also revealed that Rocket League has more than 29 million registered players, with one-fourth of these players being active in February of 2017.
